Q . U . E . N . T . I . N . It didn't take much to realize that a storm was brewing, and quite a large one at that. Dark grey clouds loomed in the sky overhead, with only the slightest of breezes stirring the mottled fur of a snow leopard crouched neatly on a rocky outcrop. He was perfectly at home on any mountain, be it the vast ranges of his Northern home or the minuscule Athalei Mountains he was currently perched upon.
Blue gaze focused on the ceiling of storm clouds above his head, Quentin let a soft sigh escape his lips. "First storm of the season... and by the looks of it, it's going to be grand." he murmured, long tail twitching in anticipation. His words were met by a low growl of thunder overhead, though he couldn't spot any lightning... not yet, at least.
With another breathy sigh, the big cat rose to his paws and quickly stretched his numbed limbs. He had been sitting here for quite some time, fascinated by the transition from sunlight to foreboding grey. Storms had always captivated him, though thunderstorms were his most favorite to watch; after all, it wasn't very often that he saw anything but snow in the North.
Glancing at the sky once more, Quentin turned from the ledge and began to climb back to the path above; one thing he wasn't quite fond of when it came to storms was rain. And by the looks of things, the deluge would begin any moment now. "Urgh... now where'd I see that cave earlier?" he mumbled to himself as he hauled his frame onto the ledge above him. Pausing a moment as he was safely sitting upon the narrow mountain trail, Quentin was swiftly pulled from his thoughts as a fat droplet of water splashed his muzzle. Eyes narrowing with dread, he didn't even bother to look at the sky; there was little need to.
Cursing under his breath, Quentin launched into a mad dash down the winding pathway down the mountain, looking for shelter all the while. Blue gaze flitting every which way, the big cat skidded to a muddy halt near the mountain's base. There, carved into the rock face, was the narrowest cave one could possibly come across. Still, it was shelter, and that was exactly was Quentin was seeking.
Quickly squeezing into the narrow crevice, he turned and sat with a huff, watching the downpour continue outside. His soaking wet pelt was sticking out in every direction, water still dripping to the floor.
"Why is it I never plan these things out?" he asked, his words quickly drowned by a deafening roar of thunder.

By the time the rain began to weaken, Quentin's limbs had gone completely numb. His fur had dried little in the damp crevice, and his discomfort was plastered upon his face in the form of a grimace.
Shifting his position in the hopes of alleviating the soreness that was beginning to overtake his entire body, Quentin growled menacingly in the dim light. "Why why why why why did I have to go and be so stupid?" he snarled as he clawed his way back into the drizzle outside.
Sprawling as he finally made his way to freedom, the big cat quickly jumped back to his paws as a bolt of lightning, swiftly accompanied by a clash of thunder, ripped through the humid air.
"Heh, storm's not over yet... looks like we're in for a second round too." he noted as he began to hurriedly walk down the rest of the pass. "Still, there's absolutely no way I'm taking cover in that so called 'cave' again."

pitter-patter . . pitter-patter . .
The rain was now drawing in harder. hitting the ground with such force. the grizzly paced through the forest, carefully making sure not to make much noise under the rain. his paws hit the ground fiercely, but the beat didn't sounds under the patter of the non-stop rain.
"Really," he muttered, continuing on, heart beating, paws clanking against the ground, eyes focussed forward. those silvery, circular eyes of Hakod's glittered. his ruffled brown fur was soaked now, and stuck to his skin; uncomfortable.
one step, and his paw had been soaked in chocolate brown mud. his silver eyes widened in surprise, and he yelped silently. his mouth opening slightly, teeth baring for a slit second. the young grizzly glanced downward, at his soaked paw. it was drenched in mud. Hakod's eyes were still wide with surprise, the rain kept slashing itself upon his fur as he continued on, shoving aside the fact that his paw was still drenched in wet mud.
his eyes were more squinted now. the mist was cowering in, and it was harder to see. a few sudden booms overhead made the grizzly jump from time to time. the seasons switched on him. it was now Spring, and the first thunderstorm of the new season was starting. for the adventurous bear, this was fun. running in the rain, but it did get annoying. an now, it was annoying him. a short huff escaped his muzzle, as he bolted forward in a slow gallop. his silvery eyes wide with excitement and curiosity.
"The last time I . . nah, not there," his head was now turned slightly to the right and his eyes were glued on the trees alongside the path he was traveling upon. Hakod slowed his pace, for his eyes had caught sight of something shimmering in the distance. his heart beat, his eyes quiver, and his legs shook slightly. the rain still pelted his fur, that was stuck to his shaking body, and the once ruffled fur was ruined.
muttering to himself, Hakod rose to his paws, long black claws sinking in the dirt as he pushed the lower half of his body to a stand. his eyes quivering with excitement as they stared at the shimmering object. he turned his body slightly to face the shimmery object's way. his ears flickered at the sound of rain bouncing off the ground. and he started forward again, paws pushed against the ground, claws half digging in the mud as he made his way.
yet the object seemed to move, and, confused slightly, Hakod moved towards it, eyes widening, paws moving faster, the pitter-patter of rain still heard. the object moved, and flickered out of sight once, but hakod's eyes managed to catch sight of it again. his pace quickened, his small stub of a tail flickered, and his head extended slightly.
eager to see what this one object was; he moved on. hakod found himself moving faster, his eyes wide with curiosity. "Just .. a little .. .. wait," he added hastily, stopping dead. "what? Where'd it go- hey .. hey!" he roared slightly, but didn't move. he only squinted his eyes and peered through the two open tree slots.
hakod's jaw clenched. it was gone, completely gone now. impossible. he rose his head, and, eyes squinted in anger. just as he was about to turn on the balls of his paws, and storm off, the stubborn bear's ears twitched as what sounded of leaves crackling and bushes rustling met them. .. surely his mind was tricking him, right? he must be the only larger animal currently in the forest. he stood, frozen there, his mouth snapped shut as he tried to listen hard.
"... hullo?" he muttered loudly, "is anyone there?" his voice boomed out, eyes wide.

Q . U . E . N . T . I . N . Quentin was quite aware of the bear even before he caught scent of him. With his careless stomping through the forest and his loud voice booming out over the sound of the light rain, the snow leopard couldn't help but feel annoyed at the creature's seemingly blissful and overly curious actions. Really, you're not even going to try and keep hidden? he thought, rolling his eyes as he stealthily made his way around a boulder. Coming to a halt, Quentin let out a breathy sigh as he heard the bear's voice calling out behind him. "Might as well." he mumbled with a shrug, pivoting around and slinking back the way he'd come.
As the bear's scent grew stronger in his nostrils, the big cat finally let his presence be fully known. "If your question was in regards to me, then yes, I am here." he said, answering the question the bear had called out earlier. "And honestly, could you quiet down a smidge? I could here you from all the way up on that path... though just barely."
Glancing up at the sky, which was getting increasingly darker, Quentin couldn't help but shudder slightly at the promise of what was quickly approaching. "This rain doesn't help much when it comes to detecting company." he noted quietly, flicking his lengthy tail.
Turning his icy gaze back to the bear, Quentin was about to sit and strike up a more friendly conversation... but that was before one of the loudest roars of thunder he'd ever heard tore through the air.
Shaking his head to clear it of the ringing in his ears, Quentin growled as he stole another glance at the sky. A bolt of lightning flashed through the darkened clouds, and a strong breeze was beginning to buffet the trees.
"I'd really love to stay and chat here, but... that storm doesn't look nice in the least. So, care to come hunt for some shelter with me before we get a good drenching?"

hakod stood frozen; why should he move anyway? there had been a noise in the distance, something shimmering, then muttering. he was curious, was that a crime? sometimes, he'd always think of the quote he'd hear others say, 'curiosity kills the cat' but never fully understood what that meant. hopefully, at least, it isn't literally.
sometimes, it brings him to far. with one perk of the ears, and quick sigh, the grizzly paused. his steps didn't echo through the rain anymore, nor did his voice harry on. for another's voice boomed out instead. hakod's eyes widened, and he yelped, hopefully silent, for a rather large snow leopard approached the grizzly. again, eyes widened, ears perked, heart thumping, hakod stared upward at the snow leopard.
suddenly, he came back into focus as the other animal spoke. "oh . ." he whimpered silently, before sighing. then he stood still for a while as the snow leopard spoke. making sure not to mess up .. not to move out of place. the leopard hadn't taken his move and pounced, so hakod felt more safe.
listening, the snow leopard finished what he had to say at first, leaving hakod the chance to answer, to speak. "Oh .. well, I suppose it was to you whom I was referrin' to." he started at first, laughing slightly in-between words. then his laugher ceased and the bear stopped, staring at the snow leopard as he mentioned how hakod should be more quiet. "Er - sorry, I'll try not to make such noise next time .." he added in a mutter.
he followed the leopard's glance up at the sky, and saw how it had increased in darkness. at this, hakod's eyes quivered, and his legs shook shortly. rain, harder rain, maybe even more thunder, was approaching. when the older snow leopard spoke again, hakod jumped shortly in shock, then glanced back down at him. "This rain doesn't help much when it comes to detecting company." the leopard had said. "Oh .. no, I guess not." mumbled hakod in a reply.
returning his glance back to the sky, it flashed a yellow color suddenly, then a sudden rip of thunder pierced hakod's small ears. yelping (although hakod seriously doubted that could be heard through the thunder, which he didn't mind much) the bear glued his eyes shut.
"I'd really love to stay and chat here, but... that storm doesn't look nice in the least. So, care to come hunt for some shelter with me before we get a good drenching?"
only to reopen them when the snow leopard spoke again. "What? oh .." hakid said loftily. but caught himself. "Most defiantly!" he added quickly, and highered himself up a but more.

Q . U . E . N . T . I . N . Offering a fleeting grin to the bear in acknowledgment of his reply, Quentin soon after spun round and began to jog through the trees. Glancing over his shoulder, he called to the bear, "We should be able to come across a cave or two if we look near the mountain."
Though he knew he was stating the obvious, Quentin felt he needed to say something in regards to where he was headed. The last thing he wanted was to offend the bear by making it seem like he was looking on his own regardless.
As he turned his head back to face forward, the snow leopard couldn't help but cringe at the memory of his previous shelter. Hopefully whatever we find will be better than that crack in the mountain... Flicking his tail, Quentin dismissed his thoughts and began focusing only on looking for someplace to take cover from the storm.
