click . . clank . . click . . clank
across the empty wood, the clanks of one bear's paws sounded as they made contact with the ground slowly. the grizzly's head was high in the air, his nose titled high, his eyes sealed shut, and his ears pinned backwards. it was as if he were up taking a sniff; but he was not. he was simply doing that for the heck of it. this way, he could easily bump into a tree, or trip.
but the bear kept his eyes closed only until he reached the end of the forest, for the sun had shined lightly upon the young bear's face, and a smile mended itself on Hakod's muzzle. his eyes snapped open in pleasure, as they glittered. the silver of their pupils turned upwards to feast upon the sight of the clear blue sky. a soft sigh escaped the grizzly's muzzle, and shortly after followed an soothing "Ah . ."
Hakod continued forward, out of the forest more, so that he could feast of the sunshine more. the shun now hit his entire body, the heat was rising, and it seemed as though the fur which lay upon him was a ton; way to hot. it quickly ceased, as the bear came back to his senses and stared out, with wide opened eyes. what lay out in front of him, was the most beautiful, yet scary view.
a few feet ahead of where Hakod stood, was a rocky area, that spread miles to the sides, and if you moved closer, you notice that spreading out front, there is now ground. a sheer drop is sitting there. a fatal drop, dropping more then a hundred feet. Hakod stood frozen, never before had he been to this part of the eastern territory. he had planned to never come. yet, here he was, standing here, before the most fatalist drop, or cliff, in the eastern territory.
frozen, he was, just frozen there. not moving a muscle. for a second, he thought as though he didn't have any muscle. then quickly remembering his limb, he shook his fur, and it ruffled. this movement made his jump.
what did he just do? . . what was that, he could've fallen! . .
mumbling under his breath, Hakod stared at one edge. he didn't move, it obviously didn't move. why was he being so stupid? thought Hakod, he could move, just, not near the edge, that's all to it. straightening himself up, he wiggled his nose before inhaling a breath, and exhaling. he took a nice short sniff, and floods of scents filled his nostrils. many of which he was unfamiliar with. so, waving this aside, Hakod, still eyeing the cliff's edge, started to bend down into a lay. he took one more deep breath, folded his paws before himself neatly, and set his head gently down on them.
right now, there wasn't much to do, except lay there and watch the cliff's edge. but Hakod was bored, and wanted to do something else .. somehting exciting .. adventurous. even at this thoughts a grin spread 'round the grizzly's muzzle. a deep, but happy, cheerful sigh found it's way out Hakod's muzzle. what was there to do? he couldn't play, playing near the edge wouldn't be fun. he wouldn't go back into the forest, no, he had been in the forest to long today.
his eyes quivered slightly, and they followed his surroundings, trying to grasp an image of something .. someone to talk to, or do. frankly, no one was there, nor had he found one decent thing to do. for now, there was only one thing to do at a moment like this. and he was exhausted enough. so why not? his eyelids feel sheepishly, covering his eyes from view.
-------
he woke with a start, heart throbbing under his harry chest, breath stirring, head upright, and eyes widened. he glanced around hastily, no one had been there .. "Only a .. a bad dream," he muttered, "nothin' but that .." but now since he was awake, was he to go back to sleep?
no, he was just to sit there, and enjoy the sun burning onto his fur, and the beautiful, but fatal view.

Watch my moves! Read my mind! "Hear my voice!"
He was an unassuming shadow, a boring piece of darkness, just your average black panther wandering along the edge of the forest, glaring out at the cliffs at his side. Calbrach could see the sun beating on the rock with it's harsh rays. He caught glimpses of dark, almost black rocks, and saw how the light played over them, and briefly wondered if himself in the sunlight looked anything similar. He let his gaze sweep the area, and something strange caught his attention, and the most strange swirling of worry, confusion, and just a hint of amusement went round in his mind. There, standing on the precipice of a sure death, was a small bear. The cub was a dark grayish brown, and looked completely at ease, from what Calbrach could tell, standing on the edge of it's doom. Calbrach watched intently for just a few seconds, expecting the young bear to simply scream and run away, or jump back. But, after far too many breaths, all that occurred was a small shake of it's fur and, strangely enough, it lay down to sleep.
Calbrach started moving again, but at a much slower pace, watching the bear casually, wondering if the cub really had decided to take a nap on the edge of a cliff. He could see the cub's brown coat moving with a slow rhythm, up and down, with eased breathing. Wow. What could those bears be teaching their young nowadays? Suddenly, he was slightly amazed by this cub's misplaced bravery. Perhaps it was simply young and foolish, but it still had to mean something of it's character that it would lay down for a nap at the edge of a shear drop. Curiosity finally peaked, Calbrach started to slowly alter his course toward the intriguing young bear. He moved slowly, and let his sure paws make more noise than usual, hoping he'd wake the cub before he was upon it, so not to startle it with his miraculous appearance out of nowhere.
"Only a .. a bad dream. nothin' but that .."
The cub's head had come up with a start, causing Calbrach's feet to take pause. With the cub clearly awake now, Calbrach decided to introduce himself. He kept a yard or so between them, and called out in a friendly tone. "Hello there, youngling! Say, care to tell me why you chose to take slumber on the egde of certain death?" With the last bit, he nodded toward the jagged cliff's egde, indicating his meaning. He wore a quizzical expression, with just a faint glow of amusement in his eyes, awaiting what was sure to be an interesting response.
