She had to admit spring was a pleasant time.
She did not know if she was permitted to say such, considering in the North the relief came little, and spring was only a winter with the strengthening of the feeble golden rays. However, she could say with an utter certainty that spring brought warmth everywhere beside it. It made her wonder if the North was chilled by the air itself or by the cold of the hearts that dwell inside.
The sky was misty, not quite moist or dense enough to be considered foggy, but there was a definite note of humidity in the air. The sun, however, shone brightly, lighting golden pools of melted honey dripping over the ground.
The ermine was reluctant to admit it, but she was relieved for a bit of escape from the North. She felt oddly secluded, and the sight of nothing but winter snow falling like delicate butterfly wings after a while became tiring. She had chosen no specific place to go, but rather she was in search of the note of spring in the air. Her fur was thick and not adjusted to the heat so far away, but the break from normality made it worthwhile.
Karma drew closer, her paws falling lightly only to be lifted up sharply. The grass was different from the ice of her home, almost alien to her had she not traveled out before. It came naturally as unpleasant, and thought she wished nothing more than to continue her sporadic walking, her pride would not allow her to stray from her dignified saunter.
Karma slowed as she reached the edge of the creek, her paws meeting where the water lapped idly at the land. It was wetter and more muddy, and the little snow-white creature recoiled as it soiled her plush coat. She huffed indignantly, washing her paws in the creek (which was swelling with the melted ice) ice narrowed her eyes in disgust. She lifted her head disdainfully, making an airy noise in the back of her throat.
It took Karma a while to settle, and when she did she was sure to make it a good few feet from the farthest reaches of the creek. She folded her paws neatly beneath her petite frame, her ears pricked. Her gaze was steady, calculating as usual. After a moment of scanning her surroundings, the ermine let her rigid shoulders relax.
There was no way anything could go wrong.
