Dear Agony
Just let go of me
Just let go of me

Travelling these rolling plains all his life was nothing new to this young elk buck. It was the only thing he had ever known ever since he was old enough to fend for himself. He had never seen his mother since then and at this point, he assumed her dead. It hit him pretty hard until he just pushed those thoughts into the back of his head. This was something that happened in the past where it should be left. Then again, his mother could have been alive so there was no telling what the new day would bring. Kaytaf had been alone most of his life after he left his mother so there wasn’t too much excitement in his life. Stepping along the tall reeds of the open plains that stretched as far as the eye could see, he took in a deep breath of the fresh spring air. Tilting his head back a bit, the top of his brown head holding large antlers that were slowly starting to shed the fur off from the previous winter. The coolness of the air that swept through his loose pelt gave him a sense of some hope. What that entitled, even he didn’t know but he wasn’t about to question it.
His thin, tall, lanky rods that acted as his legs stepped expertly over tiny gopher holes and various other little obstacles that might have been in his way. Even though there was nothing but rolling hills in front of him, Kaytaf went along carefully and cautiously. There was no telling what predators might have crossed the borders while he wasn’t around. The male was always the cautious one when it came to any situation. Flicking his ears and keeping himself erect, his big brown eyes scanned the horizon of the reeds as they blew gently in the breeze. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and no strange were being picked up by him. Then again, if there had been a predator, they could have hidden their scent by being downwind from him. With a light frown of annoyance, his tiny tail twitched before he continued onward.
The river that flowed gently through their territory wasn’t too far away from where he was and his throat was beyond parched. All he was planning on doing was going to stop for a quick drink and then go off to explore the rest of the land. One thing he knew for sure was that the Tribe’s lands were one of the largest and he was curious to know what other creatures were around that fell under the rule of the mighty Chieftain who ruled over this large expanse. He had heard many rumors about the ruler and that he was very elusive and barely anyone could catch a glimpse of him. All he knew for certain that he was of the deer breed so in a way they were like cousins. Elks were slightly bigger than the deer from what he could remember. But he wasn’t planning on challenging the ranks just because of his bigger size, oh no. Kaytaf held great respect for the great Chieftain as well as the other chiefs who ruled over the smaller sections of land.
It really didn’t matter to him all that much as their decisions didn’t affect him too drastically. Getting back to the task at hand, a gentle smile graced his muzzle as his tiny ears could pick up the sound of running water not far ahead of him. Picking up his slightly lazy pace, he sighed in relief at the cool water that flowed through noisily. Lowering his head, he took a long drink from the cooling water as it parched his thirst. Every once in awhile though, he looked up from his current activity to make sure he truly was safe. You never know what you might run into.
