Striking out I managed to land a solid kick to the side of the tawny cat’s face. She fell away from me and I galloped forward spinning back around as the tawny girl was joined by her sisters. They surrounded me and I reared up squealing at them. They charged toward me I leaped over ones head and barely escaped the closing jaws of a second. I ran forward, and put a good span of distance between me and them. When I stopped again, and looked back the trio of tawny cats had stopped pursuing me. Satisfaction in my mind I snorted in derision and dropped my head to the ground beginning to graze.
Who says I need a stallion, or friends for that matter to protect me? I sure as heck didn’t. Snorting again I continued to graze as I meandered through the grass on the Plains. Life had been rather simple for me, if not a little bit full of pain and harm and disaster upon disaster, not to mention a little bit of mystery. I raised my head at a sound and flattened my ears back a little. What was stumbling across my path now?! Throwing my head a little I scanned the grasses, spotting a golden-hued form. With impatience I screamed and stamped a hoof catching the cat’s attention.
She snarled at me and I pinned my ears fainting toward her with my ivories bared. She may have only been a cub still but she was near enough adult that my faint sent her in the opposite direction. She didn’t know quite what to do. Satisfied with my actions I returned to grazing peacefully and it was quiet for a long while. Dusk started settling over the Plains and the bugs started coming out. In frustration I went to the shorter grasses were I settled down to rest for the night. I was half asleep when the sounds of approach put me on alert. Whoever this was had better keep moving, I was in no mood to talk or the like, my posture said as much, I waited as the darkness deepened. I dare you to try to talk to me.
