Silently and confidently the form of a Coyote padded along the fallen pieces of pine needles, noting with extreme satisfaction that the needles hid his footsteps very well. Not that it mattered much, considering the fact he was humming to himself. He would have sung, if he could find words to sing. But the threat of another bout of that dreadful heat lightning was clinging in the air. His tongue could almost taste the odd tang of electricity.
And he wasn't much of a fan of heat lightning. It was annoying, and held empty promises. Sometimes it spoke of rain and sometimes it just giggled and made the day feel weird. He paused in both his humming work and his jaunt, casting a critical eye up at the sky.
"Ah, sometimes. What I would not give to be somewhere else." the canid barely even noticed he spoke out loud (but it was reassuring to hear his own voice in the vast vacuum of quiet he was trapped in). At he stared up at the sky he watched a trickle of light slither between the clouds. "Knew it." he said to himself; sounding more put-out then smug (which, would have been odd if he wasn't alone). He watched the sky for a long time, until the thud of a pine cone greeting the earth pricked his ears up. He tilted his head towards it (and, noting he was alone) spoke to it, "I wonder what your life is like. You know, being a plant. Doing...What you do. What do you do? ....Certainly a silent bunch, the lot of you." he padded over to the fallen cone, curious. "You know." he started, "I have heard that there are some of your kind that will only release seeds when you catch on fire. That's nuts. I would never want to catch on fire to have children." he shook his head, gently placing a paw on top of the pine cone and musing further. 'I'm not sure why I bother talking to this pine cone, it's not like it has the capacity to speak back to me. Oh, look. More heat lightning. Lovely.' he sighed to himself, waving his tail slowly. "Oh, Sol almighty I am so bored...."

"No, no, get back here!" Acacia chirped. A taunting bird flew low, followed by a blur of frosted red fur. She giggled and squeaked as she ran, dodging the broad trunks of trees, jumping over fallen branches, and weaving through ground brush. Her mouth was open with a child-like grin across her clever face.
She continued chasing the bird until finally it shot upwards, heading to a branch of a tree. She thought to herself, unsure of why it would have taken so long for the bird to figured that one out. She ran at the tree a few times, jumping at it and bouncing off with her paws. After a few futile attempts to use her tiny weight to shake the tree, she put her paws up on the bark of the tree, looking for the bird, her tail wagging wildly.
A sharp pain from hunger pierced her stomach, followed by a long, drawn out growl. "Awh, man...... I'm so hungry........" she complained, dropping her front paws down from the bark of the tree. She backed up a bit and looked up at the branch. "Hey Birdie!" she shouted. "Hey, Birdie, come down here!" Of course, to the bird, not only was she a predator, but was also speaking another language entirely, composed of barks and meows. She hung her head when the bird flew to the branch of another tree at the sound of the fox's voice. Disappointed, Acacia accepted defeat and lied down at the base of the tree. Tired and empty stomached, she curled up and took a nap beneath the low branches.
Only a few minutes later, she woke with a start to the sound of a voice. She recognised the voice of a canine, but it differed greatly from hers. Her soft ears perked and she scanned the area for the voice. Her eyes soon set on a large canine, larger than she had seen before, speaking to something. She got up and peered around the trunk of a tree at the coyote, listening carefully only to find that he had been talking to a pine cone.
"Actually," she said, "The pines that are here all can sprout without a forest fire." she chimed, fearlessly approaching the other animal. I mean, the guy was speaking to /pinecones/ afterall, how threatening could he really be?

Blinking in slight concern (it wasn't often a plant spoke to him, after all) Kaim fixed the pine cone with a confused glance... Before he noted that there was another creature near him. 'Oh, thank Sol! A playmate~' his ears pricked at her words, before dropping slightly. Pretentious information assaulted his ears, and his pride. With a small frown, he puffed his chest out, "I know that" he scoffed, almost offended. But, in light of his bored situation (and with the hope she could lift it from him) - he let it slide. So noble, so noble.
He noted the way she walked; with the swagger of confidence. Brave to approach him so - being he was a larger canine than she. 'But, then I am devilishly handsome. Can't blame her.' He fixed her with his most innocent face, and attempted to start a conversation; "So." he looked around the area he'd picked to stop - it was pretty uneventful. Just trees with littered pine needles on the forest floor. The ever silent flashes of heat lightning continued playing tag in the clouds - but other than the pine cone his paw still held captive... There was nothing he could bring up around him. Oh well, improv was where he excelled. "I'm Kaim." he flashed her a hefty grin, tilting his head upwards in pride. He was sure he looked pretty impressive, and if you ignored the fact he was previously having a conversation with a pine cone... He would even seem intelligent looking. But that could have been just the lighting. He let his name sink in a moment, before adding, "I'm a coyote." judging by her size and confidence... He assumed she was young. Though living in a forest as peaceful as the one they called home could also be her hubris; the oath most of them swore to not eat other beasts of (some) intelligence led to a rather trusting path. Which amused the coyote dearly almost all the time. Flicking his ear and tossing his thoughts into the back of his mind, he switched his innocent gaze for one of curiosity; waiting to see if she would state her name as well.
