There was only one thing on Avarhys's mind as he glided smoothly over the endless sea of greens and yellows, and that was the fact that he was in desperate need of company. Not that he was the type who couldn't handle living on his own; he was anything but. But it got intensely boring when all you had to talk to was yourself... and perhaps the grass and occasional rock, if he felt up to it.
"Aww, now I feel bad, leavin' poor Rocky out there all alone..." he suddenly drawled aloud, a frown spreading across his muzzle as he came to a sudden halt.
"Poor guy was the only boulder for miles... wasn't really chatty though. But whatever." he continued to himself, shrugging off his moment of pity. Flicking an oversized ear, Avarhys lurched forward and began to walk once more, the rustling of the grass at his hooves the only sound to reach his ears. It was admittedly very silent today; barely a breeze to give life to the grasses, with the sun mercilessly beating down upon his dark back.
"Dammit... the hell can someone find some shade around here?" he mumbled under his breath, tossing his horned head in distaste. Having a dark coat in the middle of the summer wasn't exactly favorable, and although he could put up with the heat, he still blatantly hated the sunlight. Right about now, he could honestly do with a nice rest, preferably in the shade. And he knew exactly where to find it... though it was a long way off.
"'S a shame the Shield has to be so damn far away..." he continued murmuring to himself, breaking into a slight jog in his impatience to arrive at his destination.

He'd lost track of how long he'd been traveling by the time he caught sight of trees in the distance. All he knew was that he was just about ready to keel over from exhaustion and dehydration. He'd get his shade soon enough, but he'd have to be insanely lucky if there was a water source close by as well.
Dark violet eyes narrowed in a mixture of weariness and concentration, Avarhys forced his legs into a jarring gallop across the last stretch of prairie before it met with trees. The Shield wasn't exactly a large forest, but it was the largest in the Plains, and therefore a hotspot for those looking to escape the summer heat. It was extremely rare to find such a place, and the many blackened and dead trees poking out from the rest explained why; lightning was this forest's greatest enemy.
But luckily, there would be no storms today; the sky was clear and endlessly blue, just as there was an equally endless sea of greens beneath it.
Sides heaving in an attempt to catch his breath, Avarhys stumbled to a halt just within the trees, the shade instantly cooling his burning back. It took a great deal of effort to keep himself from loosing his balance and toppling to the ground. With a snort, Avarhys simply stood for a moment in the sweet relief that was shade, motionless.
"'Mmmmm... this feels so good..." he murmured with a giddy chuckle to himself, grinning.
"But. I ought to set off and find myself somethin' to drink, then I guess I'll hang here and have some lunch too. No sense in leaving now that I'm here."
And with that, Avarhys set off deeper into the sparsely populated forest, quickly blending in with his surroundings.
{ first post with Ava yay. :'D sorry it's kinda boring though; there's not much else he could've done to make it more entertaining, lol. }
